I was invited by my friend to do a guest bar shift at Bar 7 in Ulaanbaatar, and I quickly realized I knew absolutely nothing about Mongolia. So, I started doing research... and what I discovered completely surprised me. Join me for an unforgettable 7-day journey through the capital city as we explore the food, cocktail scene, and culture of Mongolia. From learning about Genghis Khan's influence on modern UB to discovering the unique blend of Korean and Russian flavors in the local food scene, this trip was an eye-opener. Here is the full breakdown of the trip: Day 1: Arrival & First Tastes We arrive in Ulaanbaatar and dive straight into Mongolian cuisine at Sparrow Restaurant. Later, we explore the local cocktail scene visiting Nomad Lab, Four Senses, and Bitsy & Co, before ending the night with some late-night food. Day 2: The Campari Competition We attend the Campari Cocktail Competition to witness the Mongolian finals and see the local talent firsthand. Day 3: Masterclass & History I host a masterclass on bar operations. Afterward, we head to The Bull (Mongolia's largest hot pot chain) for dinner. We spend the evening at Negorni, learning more about Genghis Khan's view and influence on the local community. Day 4: Genghis Khan Statue & Guest Shift We visit the massive Genghis Khan Statue and even ride a camel! After dinner, I host a cocktail pop-up where I make drinks at Bar 7. We finish the night partying hard with lots of tequila and late-night food, where we discover the heavy influence of Korean and Russian culture on the local cuisine. Day 5: Seoul Street Street Food We explore the late-night street food scene at Seoul Street and get a taste of the local nightlife. Day 6: Fancy Korean BBQ We go for a fancy Korean BBQ dinner and try Hanwoo beef — a seriously memorable meal. Day 7: Russian Food Farewell We wrap up the trip with Russian food, rounding out the cultural food journey we'd been piecing together all week.
