Intrepid Longplay (Arcade Game) -
Intrepid, released by Nova Games in 1983, is a maze-based arcade title following the style of early stealth-inspired action games. You control a secret agent infiltrating a multi-floor embassy, collecting pieces of a classified document while avoiding guards who patrol the corridors. Each floor is structured as a compact maze, with elevators, hidden passages and narrow escape routes that force you to react quickly while planning your path.
The game’s tension comes from its constant sense of pursuit. Guards don’t move randomly; they respond to your position and close in quickly, especially once alarms trigger or you linger too long in the same area. Capturing all eight document pieces requires navigating several increasingly difficult floors, each with tighter layouts and more aggressive enemy patterns. The agent can occasionally stun a guard using a brief kick, but the move has a very short range, so evasion is usually safer than confrontation.
Visually, Intrepid uses simple but expressive early-80s sprites, with chunky character designs and a colour palette typical of the era. Its gameplay sits somewhere between Pac-Man-style evasion and the early foundations of what later became stealth-action games. While not widely remembered compared to the giants of its genre, it offered a unique twist at the time thanks to its embassy theme, the objective-based progression, and the cat-and-mouse pressure that defines each level.
