This was supposed to be a fall soap with a contrasting cream base, bold berry and blackberry swirls, a lighter frosted top and a mica drizzle. Instead, far too much batter was reserved for the colored portions, the mica blends completely took over, and the finished soap looked nothing like the planned design. The only things that did *not* go wrong were ricing and acceleration. The batter stayed workable—but that clearly wasn’t enough to save this batch. The base recipe itself was not the problem. The oil blend, lye concentration and additives—including EDTA, sodium lactate and BHT—performed exactly as intended and produced a very nice, hard bar of soap. Unfortunately, the color planning, batter divisions, swirls and overall decorative design were unsuccessful.
