Day two and so video 2 aswell from a plane spotting weekend at Amsterdam Schiphol. This day was sort of split in half, as me and my friend Michael went away from Schiphol mid-day to do something else. (You'll see what tomorrow.) We started somewhat later in the morning because of some much needed rest. The winds had shifted, and now the Polderbaan was in use for departures. That is always awesome. So we got going and the very first airplane was an old friend of me! It was the Danish Air Transport Airbus A321 OY-RUU, which me and my friend Ryan flew on in 2020. That was the flight which should have been the MD-80, but we got this A321 which back then was in a bad state from the inside. Makes you wonder how bad it is now six years later. Hopefully they restored the cabin by now. By the way, it was flying for Transavia today. Throughout the morning it became clear that KLM is using their Boeing 787-10's very frequently! At one point three of them took off in succession, and we caught a fourth one too. We caught two Air Baltic specials, one of them being the Baltic heritage livery, a new one which I had not seen before. Then there was a truly amazing take off the USC Airbus A340-600! It was incredible! What a beast of a plane that thing is! Just before we left Schiphol for our break, we caught a couple of landings at runway 06. We did that because we really wanted to catch the beautiful Cargolux Boeing 747-400F in their retro livery, and we did just that! Really really good stuff! After catching a new Vueling A320 special livery we left the airport en returned in the evening for more Polderbaan departures. It became one of the best evenings I have ever had at Schiphol. Not in the video, but we arrived just in time for Michael to photograph a Silkway Cargo Boeing 777F. Next up was another triple-seven freighter, this time from Suparna Airlines. And then a beautiful blue Queen of the Skies turned up. It was the KLM Cargo Boeing 747-400F, PH-CKB. Amazing to see and hear this beauty! Other great catches followed. One I really loved was an Airbus A300F from MNG Airlines. Always amazing to catch any A300 and this one looked and sounded incredible! Catching a very delayed United B777-200ER was cool and we saw the Transavia Retro again. At one point me and Michael sensed runway 36C was going to open because more and more interesting flights got that runway assigned on CDM. So we went there and we timed it perfectly. The light this evening was absolutely brilliant! In beautiful golden and orange hues we got a great selection of departures. There was a Kenya Airways B787-8, a flight which I don’t think I’ve ever filmed taking off before! Other beautiful Dreamliners from Oman Air (new at Schiphol) and Air India departed. The KLM Skyteam B737-900 looked incredible with that light. And there were two magnificent 747-400F take off’s from Singapore Cargo and Atlas Air. The Atlas Air took off in literally the last sunlight of the day. Unfortunately I made a big error by not paying attention to the battery percentage of the camera. So the cam was about to die when the Atlas Air rotated. The image stabilisation stopped and that’s why that shot sadly came out very shaky. I tried to salvage it with some editing trickery and I have to say it looks okay-ish. Anyway, what an incredible evening that was. Onbelievable light, amazing airplanes, a great backdrop with the unique Schiphol ATC tower and some banking shots too! It was so good! Definitly one of the best evenings I’ve ever had at Schiphol. It was a fantastic day all round! I hope you enjoy the video!
This day I was joined by my friend Michael. Check out his plane spotting content here!~
