God's purposes are not bound by human lineage or effort, but flow entirely from His sovereign choice (vv. 10–16). It can feel uncomfortable to realize that our life with God depends on His choosing and mercy rather than on our choices and efforts, but in reality, this is a gift! And God’s gift calls forth a response—to live in gratitude and to declare His goodness for the blessing of all those God is bringing into His family.
