He P*mped For 25 Years — Made More Money Than Kingpins and Ice-T Named Himself After Him

For roughly 25 years, Robert Beck lived as "Iceberg Slim" — one of the most notorious pimps in the Midwest. Then he put it all on paper, and his books changed street literature and hip-hop forever. This documentary follows Iceberg Slim's life: his childhood, his years in Chicago's underworld, the prison stretches, and the 1967 memoir Pimp: The Story of My Life that sold millions of copies. We look at how his voice and his rules shaped Blaxploitation films and gangsta rap, why Ice-T took his name, and how Ice Cube's name traces back to him too. Using his own writing, interviews and historical accounts, we tell the story of the man behind the legend.
