Intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS) are a new technology with the potential to provide large channel gains for wireless communications. However, with the push towards larger bandwidths in the terahertz and millimeter-wave regimes, IRS hardware constraints may become a limiting factor in their wideband performance. Joey Carlson's presentation in IEEE Globecom 2022 discusses this issue and formulates a methodology to analyze an IRS design's wideband capabilities.
