From school to the community. From learning to new connections. “SMILE DOOR” is a project developed together by students of the Special Needs Education School affiliated with Yokohama National University and SquareKnot. The project aims to take each student’s interests and strengths beyond the classroom, creating opportunities to connect with people and the wider community. This time, at the students’ initiative, we spoke with the school principal about the project. Why did SMILE DOOR begin? What kinds of experiences do we hope students will gain through this initiative? When schools and communities come together, new possibilities for learning begin to emerge.
