NOTHING UNUSUAL — Retro Synthwave with a Psychedelic Twist

NOTHING UNUSUAL is a playful journey somewhere between 1980s synthwave and synth-pop, and the colourful, slightly eccentric world of 1970s psychedelic pop. Rather than taking itself too seriously, the album explores a strange little universe where astronauts travel beyond the stars, goblins appear after dark, rockets wait in the garden, a submarine turns up in a quiet pond, and a remarkably talkative dog seems to have an opinion about almost everything. Musically, NOTHING UNUSUAL combines retro synthesizer sounds, electronic rhythms and catchy pop melodies with the imagination, humour and surreal character of psychedelic pop. Six songs. The music on NOTHING UNUSUAL was created using a Yamaha Genos and Yamaha MODX6+. Presets and styles from both instruments were used as part of the arrangements and production. The lyrics were originally written in Dutch and then translated and adapted into English. For the vocal parts, I first sang the melodies myself to establish the phrasing and melodic lines.
