Bardcore EDM mix: 12 original medieval rave anthems – hurdy-gurdy, lute, war drums and gang-shouted choruses over sub bass, wubs and drops at 140–174 BPM. 38 minutes of knights, ale, a dragon and bad decisions.
Same company of knights as the Bardcore Techno set, but the kick is gone and the sub is the song. They come home from a war and demand the drawbridge, feel something under the keep that no bell can drown, build a siege weapon that fires bass and blow the king's crown three feet back, lose a drinking contest to the maiden at the mead hall, run down a dragon at full gallop (feed it steel – wrong century for lead), meet a knight in black who trained mostly in taverns, hold a mace contest that rings the bell nine times, drink something glowing from the cellar and have to fetch a wizard, order feast mode until the wall comes down, follow a paladin whose code is flexible at best, charge into a battle they are badly outnumbered for, and take one more drop before dawn. The same fools turn up in every song – Hugh, Cedric, Roland, Bran, the Captain – and the finale rolls through every one of them: Dragon? DEAD! Wizard? GONE! Mace? STUCK! Horse? WRONG!
The sound is bardcore × dubstep: medieval instruments – hurdy-gurdy, lute, shawm, hammered dulcimer, frame drums – kept clearly recognizable inside modern bass production, with a different flavour of dubstep on every track: festival brostep, deep dubstep, riddim, tearout, drumstep at 174, wonky bass, melodic dubstep for the finale. A deep male baritone leads, dry and centred and always above the bass, with huge gang-shouted choruses built for singing along. Medieval rave, mead-hall bass music, a dungeon that found a subwoofer – less tavern ambience, more a tavern where the floor is moving.
Raise a mug, brace for the drop, and press play.
