Oakham is a small but charming town in the East Midlands of England, serving as the county town of Rutland – the smallest historic county in England. It has a population of around 10,000 people and is located near Rutland Water, one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, popular for walking, cycling, and birdwatching. The town has a rich medieval history. One of its main landmarks is Oakham Castle, a 12th-century Norman building notable for its large collection of ceremonial horseshoes. According to local tradition, visiting nobility present a horseshoe to the castle, and many of them are now displayed on the castle walls. Oakham retains the feel of a traditional English market town, with stone buildings, a weekly market, and a variety of local shops, pubs, and cafés. It is also home to Oakham School, a prestigious independent school founded in 1584. ► LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!
