"Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue" (originally known as Beetlejuice’s Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue) was a legendary, irreverent musical stage show located in the San Francisco section of Universal Studios Florida.
The premise was deliciously chaotic: Beetlejuice acts as an undead master of ceremonies, resurrecting classic Universal Monsters and transforming them into stadium-status rock stars.
🎭 Show Summary & Progression
• The Resurrection Intro: The show takes place in a covered, open-air amphitheater dressed up like a spooky, gothic cemetery. Following an atmospheric lightning storm, Beetlejuice bursts onto the stage to warm up the audience with crude jokes, pop-culture roasts, and high-energy interactions. Realizing the graveyard is a bit dead, he decides to "turn on the juice and see what shakes loose".
• Summoning the Band: Through a series of smoky explosions and dramatic musical cues, Beetlejuice summons the iconic Universal Monsters out of their respective crypts and coffins. Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman, and the Bride of Frankenstein take the stage, completely shedding their terrifying cinematic personas for leather jackets, heavy makeup, and sunglasses.
• The Backup Dancers: The 2003 era was defined by the introduction of generic versions of Hip and Hop—two energetic, backup-dancing "fearleaders" (cheerleaders) who anchored the choreography—alongside gothic ghouls like Phantasia.
• The Rock Medley: The heart of the 20-to-25 minute show was an relentless, high-intensity concert loop. Each monster had a dedicated solo showcasing their "undead talent" (e.g., Dracula singing a smooth pop ballad, or the Wolfman tearing through a heavy metal guitar solo) before joining together for explosive group choreography.
• The Pyro Finale: The revue concludes with a massive, stadium-style performance. Beetlejuice leads the monsters in a final rock anthem as the stage erupts with massive columns of fire, flashing strobe lights, and theatrical fog machine blasts, leaving the audience roaring as the monsters retreat back to the underworld.
🎵 The 2003 Setlist Era
While the musical lineup shifted over the show's 23-year lifespan, the 2003 version leaned heavily into late-90s dance-pop and classic arena rock anthems:
• "Rock and Roll All Nite" (KISS) — The ultimate full-cast opening number.
• "One Wild Night" (Bon Jovi) — Sung with high energy by Dracula.
• "Smooth" (Santana ft. Rob Thomas) — A sultry, percussion-heavy solo featured by the Wolfman.
• "Holding Out for a Hero" (Bonnie Tyler) — Belled out dynamically by the Bride of Frankenstein.
• "You Shook Me All Night Long" (AC/DC) — The massive, guitar-heavy group finale.
