Meister Eckhart Said You Were the Merchant in the Temple

He is preaching on the story where Jesus drives the traders out of the temple. Everyone expects the usual reading: greed is bad, keep money out of church. That is not where he goes. He tells the congregation that the merchants in the story are them — not the ones who cheat, the ones who pray properly and give properly and expect something back. This is the sixth video in a Musteria series on twelve people who arrived at answers with no tradition holding them up. Eckhart von Hochheim held a master's chair in theology at Paris twice, preached in German to laypeople, and died around thirteen twenty-eight, before the papal bull finished with twenty-eight of his sentences.
