Bird Guide Sattal Birding Trail

A peaceful morning in the forests of Sattal turned into a beautiful birding session with our guests as we explored the famous Bend Area Trail — one of the finest birding patches in Kumaon during the summer season. Starting early in the morning, the forest was alive with bird calls, fresh mountain air, and constant movement in the canopy. This time, the summer migrants truly made the trail special. Throughout the walk, we encountered several exciting species including the elegant Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, the active Bar-winged Flycatcher-Shrike, the striking Black-winged Cuckooshrike, and the ever-busy Lesser Yellownape working along the tree trunks. The forests of Sattal are currently full of breeding activity, mixed hunting flocks, and migrant movement, making every turn on the trail rewarding. Along with the birds, the peaceful atmosphere of the oak and broadleaf forests made the experience even more memorable for our guests. The Bend Area continues to prove why it is considered one of the best birding trails in Uttarakhand during spring and summer. Towards the end of the session, we also explored the beautiful Garur Taal forest — a quieter and less explored patch around Sattal that offers a completely different forest feel. The dense woods, calm surroundings, and untouched habitat made for a perfect ending to the morning birding experience. Guiding this wonderful session were Sakshi and Neer, who shared field insights, bird calls, behaviour, and identification tips with the guests throughout the trail.
