Morihei Ueshiba meets Sokaku Takeda in Ayabe

A video blog by Stanley Pranin Morihei Ueshiba's jujutsu teacher, Sokaku Takeda, arrived in Ayabe with his wife and children to stay for 6 months in the Ueshiba home. It was unprecedented for Sokaku to do such a thing, and reveals the close bond between master and student that existed at that time. One thing there is concrete proof of is that Sokaku's stay lasted six months. At the end of this period, Morihei was awarded the Kyoju Dairi scroll which certified him as an instructor of Daito-ryu qualified to teach the art as Sokaku's representative. This would prove to be a turning point in the relationship between the two men and was a key factor in the later establishment of aikido in 1942.
