Plane Spotting Athens Airport 3-3-2026 | Beautiful Spot (Huge Heathaze)

Me and Ryans first full day of plane spotting at Athens Airport! We quickly learned that Athens is not the easiest airport to spot at. Groundshots are very difficult, so you are mostly only making sky shots. We tried a few spots during this day, and some turned out to be better than others. It was an early start as we wanted to catch the beautiful dark red Juneyao Air Boeing 787-9 arriving. We managed to do that before the sun had even risen. That was a landing on runway 07R. We moved to 07L to try some arrival shots with the hills in the background. It worked out quite well with nice catches such as the DHL Boeing 767-300F, a FedEx Boeing 737-800F, and a Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER. Sadly the heathaze moved in quickly and we were forced to do skyshots again. Earlier we caught another nice 737 Freighter from West Atlantic. And that was followed up by one from Camex too. There is quite some nice cargo stuff at Athens actually! We also caught a Star Air Boeing 767-200F and a rare Swift Air Hellas Embraer EMB120! We also caught the Cessna Skycourier again and nice looking Airbusses from MEA, Cyprus Airways, FlyYo and a slightly less nice looking Fly2Sky. Next we wanted to try something different. We drove all the way up a hill east of the airport, and after a bit of a walk we found a spot overlooking almost the whole airport. The view of the departures from runway 07R was stunning! However, so was the heathaze. Due to the distance to the airplanes it even became a bit of a problem for me! Still, we took what we could get as we did not want to have done the long drive for nothing. Nice movements were a US C-130 Hercules, the Juneyao Air, a bluebird 737, and A320's from Tus Air and Electra. We rounded off the day with arrivals. Highlights here were the Emirates B777-300ER, Air Serbia Embraer E190, KlasJet Boeing 737-500 (this was a really nice one!) , and we liked all the ATR's, especially the ATR 42's and the Tarom 72.
