During a late night of very little sleep I was musing over the concept of love. I started to think about a particular time when I was thinking about the phrase, "In the evening of life, we will be judged on love alone" by Saint John of the Cross and its meaning. Then, that day after working on a song I was asked if I knew what love was. I do... and I think the other person doesn't know. I wonder if the people in the past still remember what it felt like to be really loved or not. Musically I wanted this song to be simple and have an intimate feel to it. ---------- [Verse 1] Do you remember what it was like To smile until your face hurt? Do you remember trading shirts Just to breathe in the scent of someone’s world? Do you remember trembling hands, The nervous shake when you got close? Do you remember how it felt To know you’d found the one you’d never let go? [Chorus] This is what love is, This is how it should feel. Not just a word, not just a dream — It’s fire, it’s fragile, it’s real. Do you remember? Do you remember? [Verse 2] Do you remember talking all night, Until the morning stole the stars? Do you remember secrets shared Back to back with no fear of scars? Do you remember sensing them near, Without a sound, without a glance? Do you remember the quiet truth — That love was more than circumstance? [Chorus] This is what love is, This is how it should feel. Not just a word, not just a dream — It’s fire, it’s fragile, it’s real. Do you remember? Do you remember? [Bridge] It’s the ache, it’s the joy, It’s the silence filled with song. It’s the knowing deep inside That you’ve been home all along. [Final Chorus] This is what love is, This is how it should feel. Do you remember the way it burned? Do you remember the way it healed? Do you remember? Do you remember?
