Istikhara: Are We Really Asking Allah to Make Our Decisions?

Should we turn to Istikhara whenever we are unable to make a difficult decision? And when an Istikhara says “yes” or “no,” what does that actually mean? For generations, Muslims have turned to Istikhara when faced with uncertainty — marriage, career decisions, business, travel and other important choices. But the practice raises some fascinating questions.
