Africa: Why We Should Care | David Pigott | TEDxRexburg

David Pigott is a professor of history at Brigham Young University-Idaho and has been involved in African issues since 2002 when he and his students started sending books to a Ugandan university in hopes of building up their library holdings. He hates to see things go to waste. The book project developed into a lifelong admiration and study of African culture and history, several trips to Africa with academics and students, a teaching stint at a university in Uganda, a documentary film on the effects of globalization on traditional cultures, and the foundation of a non-profit dedicated to providing educational opportunities for African children among numerous other activities dealing with African affairs. He believes that the challenges Africans face, while many times not of their own making, can only be solved by Africans themselves and that an educated and informed African population is the only way forward. He, his wife, Kathleen, and their four children have made Rexburg their home for the last 14 years.
