Today I visit Giverny in Normandy, France - the home and garden of Claude Monet. Originally a walled orchard, Monet bought the property and set about creating the family home and garden where he lived and worked until his death in 1929, forty years later. He converted the orchard into a stunning garden oasis of beauty and colour, and bought a field across the road where he created his famous water garden. His garden was his muse, and over the next 40 years he painted every aspect of it. His acclaimed ‘water lily’ paintings are displayed in galleries all over the world, and easily rank amongst the most recognisable art in history. I booked a half day excursion to Giverny from Paris with City Wonders, costing €85 euros including the admission ticket.
