Forty-nine equations. Each one is drawn, and the drawing is played.
The left panel writes the equation and draws the curve it produces. The right
panel is the same curve read as a graph: a pen travels along the path and its
height becomes the note you hear. Two different instruments — one for the curve,
one for the graph — so you hear the shape being made and the shape being read at
the same time.
Thirteen of these are strange attractors — Lorenz, Chua, Thomas, Rössler and
others — systems that never repeat a path and never repeat a note. The rest are
plane curves with closed forms: the Butterfly curve, a Gear curve, the Bohemian
star, Dürer's shell curve. Then knots, space curves and spirals.
No two shapes in this video look alike. I checked that by measurement rather
than by eye: every pair was compared by silhouette and by how its radius swings,
and anything too close to something already in was thrown out.
Rendered at 4K from a single self-contained HTML file. No stock footage, no
samples — the geometry is computed and the audio is synthesised from scratch.
Which one sounded best? Tell me in the comments and I'll build a video around it.
