A Spit in the Face: Why Kyle Appleford’s Words Hit Viewers So Hard

Jenny Appleford built more than a YouTube audience. During her cancer journey, viewers followed her story, prayed for her, supported her family, sent gifts, contributed financially, watched her videos, and became part of the community surrounding her channel. Then Kyle Appleford told viewers: “You didn’t know my wife. You knew her from a screen. You knew her from YouTube, but you didn’t know her.” For some viewers, those words landed very differently than he may have intended.
