Chapter 13 – The Yoga of Discrimination between the Kshetra and the Kshetrajna explains the fundamental distinction between the Kshetra (Field), consisting of the body, mind, senses, emotions and all changing material phenomena, and the Kshetrajna (Knower of the Field), the conscious Self that knows and illumines them. Lord Krishna describes the constituents of the Field, its modifications, and the qualities of true Jñāna (knowledge), such as humility, non-violence, detachment, equanimity and devotion to the Supreme. He then reveals that the same Supreme Consciousness is present as the Knower in all beings, while Prakriti (Nature) is responsible for the activities and transformations of the body and mind. This Chapter teaches that liberation comes through discriminating between the changing Field and the unchanging Knower, ultimately recognising the Knower as the Supreme Self present in all.
