Sorry if a few parts of the video feel a little different from my usual content. This is something I’ve wanted to talk about for a long time.
Hey everyone, I’m Ayushman, a final year engineering student at NIT Hamirpur.
If you are preparing for JEE, NEET, UPSC, CLAT, CAT, or any other competitive exam, chances are you’ve come across teachers who are more than just teachers. They become influencers, build personal brands, make strong opinions, compare themselves with other teachers, and sometimes even tell students that they won’t succeed unless they study from them.
But where does teaching end and marketing begin?
In this video, I talk about the coaching culture I experienced during my JEE preparation and share a personal incident that completely changed the way I looked at coaching teachers.
One teacher I studied from was genuinely excellent at teaching. But at the same time, he repeatedly criticised another young teacher and claimed that students would not get selected if they studied from him.
A few months later, that same teacher joined the coaching institute run by the person he had previously criticised because they offered him more money.
That experience made me realise something important.
Teachers are professionals. Coaching is a business. Personal brands are businesses too.
That does not mean every coaching teacher is bad or that you should stop trusting your teachers.
It simply means you should learn to separate the teaching from the branding.
When a teacher explains a concept, learn from them.
When they give you useful academic advice, listen.
But when they start telling you that another teacher is useless, making controversial statements, pushing personal opinions, or constantly promoting their own superiority, pause and think for yourself.
Your teacher is a guide, not your saviour.
Your selection ultimately depends on your own consistency, practice, revision, problem solving, and ability to stay disciplined.
This applies to JEE, NEET, UPSC, CLAT, CAT and almost every competitive exam ecosystem.
If you are preparing for one of these exams, I genuinely hope this video helps you become a little more careful about who you trust and why.
