I came to the UK with a very different plan.
After studying Microbiology in Nigeria, I started a small clothing business because I always imagined myself building something of my own. Then I moved to the UK to study for a Master’s degree in International Business — convinced that my future would look very different from where I am today.
But things didn’t quite go according to plan.
I found myself doing different jobs, eventually working in schools as a Cover Supervisor and Science Technician. Somewhere along the way, I discovered that I genuinely enjoyed helping students and making an impact in the classroom.
And that unexpected journey eventually led me to becoming a qualified secondary school teacher in the UK. 👩🏾🏫
But teaching isn’t the only part of my story.
I’m still building my fashion business, Ioma Atelier. I’m still passionate about fashion design. I still create content. And I have a long-term dream of becoming a bridal fashion designer.
So this isn’t really a story about choosing one career.
It’s a story about figuring things out, following unexpected opportunities, and allowing your life to evolve.
If you’re currently in a season where your career isn’t going according to the plan you had in your head, I hope this reminds you that you don’t necessarily have to have everything figured out yet.
Your path can change.
And that’s okay. 🤍
