It is popularly known as Mindfulness or Insight meditation in the west. Now it is considered as the crown of all well-known meditations such as Transcendental meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Heartfulness meditation of Ram Chandra Mission, Raja Yoga by Brahmakumaries, Isha Kriya of Sadguru, and Kriya Yoga popularised by Pamahansa Yogananda who wrote An Autobiography of a Yogi. Vipassana is practiced for concentration, mind control, health, happiness, and enlightenment. As Vipassana purifies mind and relaxes the body, it is believed that it can magnetize the mind and make the law of attraction work effectively in the lives of its practitioners. By keeping one’s attention or mindfulness on breath, we can develop concentration. This is called Ana Pana Sati. After a period of time by using concentration and equanimity or objectivity, the mind is purified and prepared for Nirvana and enlightenment. SN Goenka popularised Vipassana in India and Jon Kabit Zin, Goldstein and others in the west.
