Odisha Electricity Tariff May Fall | 2 GW Small Hydro Power Target Electricity tariffs in Odisha could potentially come down as the state prepares to expand small hydropower generation. The Energy Department has set a target of generating 2 GW of electricity through small hydro projects, with 185 potential sites identified across the state. Projects generating less than 25 MW will be classified as small hydro projects. A stakeholder workshop was held in Bhubaneswar to discuss the development of these projects, with financial support being provided by MNRE. GRIDCO CMD Satyabrata Rath said the identified sites have the potential to generate around 2 GW of power, while MNRE will provide financial assistance of up to ₹20 crore per project under the scheme. Energy experts believe Odisha’s water resources and rainfall can provide significant potential for small hydropower generation.
