What if Russia used a nuclear weapon against Ukraine? In 2019, Princeton researchers simulated how a single nuclear "warning shot" in Europe could escalate into a global nuclear war within hours. We built our own scenario and followed it step by step: from the first launch to the last place on Earth where people could still survive. This is a simulation. It is not a prediction, a forecast or a claim about what any government is planning. No nuclear weapon has been used in war since 1945. The world's nine nuclear powers hold about 12,187 warheads, and over 2,000 of them are kept on high alert. Russia alone has around 5,420. Our scenario starts with one tactical strike. Then we follow the chain reaction: NATO's response, the first nuclear exchanges in Europe, other nuclear powers joining in, the strategic launches and, finally, the nuclear winter that comes after the explosions. When the smoke blocks the sun, the war is no longer the main killer. Hunger is. A 2023 study tested 38 island nations under nuclear winter conditions and found only five that could still feed themselves. One of them becomes humanity's last refuge. Every number in this video comes from published research and real arsenal data, and we show the math on screen: • Global nuclear stockpile: about 12,187 warheads (SIPRI, January 2026) • Russia's arsenal: about 5,420 warheads, 1,796 deployed and ready to launch • First hours of escalation: 34.1 million dead and 57.4 million injured (Princeton "Plan A" simulation) • Nuclear winter: more than 5 billion people at risk of starvation (Xia et al., Nature Food, 2022) • Last refuges: New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands (Boyd & Wilson, Risk Analysis, 2023) #NuclearWar #WhatIf #Simulation #NuclearWinter #Hindcast
