Temples are everywhere in Thailand, and so are the words that go with them. In this video you'll learn what Thais actually say about temple life: บาตร (baat, a monk's alms bowl) and ใส่บาตร (sai baat, giving food to monks in the morning), ทำบุญ (tham bun, making merit), ไหว้พระ (wai phra, paying respect to the Buddha) and แวะ (wae, to stop by), นั่งสมาธิ (nang sa-maa-thi, to meditate), สวดมนต์ (suat mon, to chant), and บวช (buat, to ordain), including บวชพระ (ordaining as a monk) and บวชชี (ordaining as a nun). Each word comes with an everyday example, like inviting a friend to give alms tomorrow morning or making merit on your birthday.
