In this episode of **Subedaar**, we tell the extraordinary story of **Babu Banarasi Das**, the 11th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh — a freedom fighter, Gandhi-inspired leader, and politician whose career was shaped by courage, simplicity, ideological battles and political upheaval. From the cold night of 5 February 1943, when the young freedom fighter was brutally beaten and tied to a jamun tree inside Bulandshahr jail for refusing to apologise to the British, to eventually occupying the Chief Minister’s chair decades later, Babu Banarasi Das lived a life deeply connected with India’s political history. But his journey was far from simple. A leader who challenged untouchability as a teenager, opened a girls’ school and became a teacher, participated in the freedom movement, entered the first Uttar Pradesh Assembly after Independence, and later held important ministerial responsibilities, Banarasi Das built a reputation for his straightforward politics. In 1979, amid the collapse of the Janata Party government and the resignation of Ram Naresh Yadav, he emerged as a surprising choice for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. His tenure, however, was marked by intense political factionalism, the RSS-Jan Sangh controversy, the Aligarh Muslim University violence, allegations against his government, and the growing crisis within the Janata Party. The *Narayanpur incident* eventually became a major turning point. Questions over police brutality, administrative failure and the government's response put enormous pressure on Banarasi Das. With the Congress returning to power at the Centre under Indira Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh's political situation changed dramatically. On 17 February 1980, President’s Rule was imposed in Uttar Pradesh along with several other non-Congress states, bringing Banarasi Das’s tenure to an end. But his political journey did not end there. From returning to Parliament to eventually rejoining Congress, his life remained intertwined with the major political transformations of post-Independence India. This is the story of *Babu Banarasi Das — the freedom fighter who became Chief Minister, the politician who refused a government bungalow, and the leader caught in one of Uttar Pradesh’s most turbulent political eras.* Watch *Subedaar* to discover the story behind the man and the politics that shaped his rise and fall. #Subedaar #Molitics #BabuBanarasiDas #UttarPradesh #UPPolitics #IndianPolitics #PoliticalHistory #HistoryOfIndia #JanataParty #IndiraGandhi #CharanSingh #UPCM #UttarPradeshHistory #IndianHistory #PoliticalHistoryIndia----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 📲 Available on: • Molitics App (iOS) – https://apps.apple.com/in/app/molitic... • Molitics App (Android) – https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... • Website – https://www.molitics.in 📢 Follow us on: • View all Videos :- https://www.molitics.in/moliticsvideo... • Facebook –   / molitics   • Twitter – https://x.com/moliticsindia?s=20 • Instagram –   / molitics.india   • WhatsApp Channel – https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vaa7... 📩 Contact us at: Office@molitics.in
