Adopt a Block

It started with picking up trash. It became something much more. Earlier this month, a group of veterans at the VA Community Recovery and Resource Center began an Adopt a Block program, heading out after group each weekday to help clean up Huntington. But along the way, something bigger has taken shape. It’s given them a way to spend time together, give back to their community and rediscover a sense of purpose through service. There’s plenty of laughter, too, including a little friendly competition over who can collect the most trash and who can find the most unusual item of the day. We had the privilege of spending some time with them and hearing, in their own words, what this program has come to mean.
