It's a web application that records when employees arrive and leave using their fingerprint. The first scan of the day is the check-in and the second is the check-out. The system works out who was present, late, on a half day, absent or on leave, and turns that into a monthly register HR can export for payroll. How does a fingerprint scanner connect to a PHP website? A browser can't read a USB fingerprint scanner directly. On a PC, the scanner's local service (for example the Mantra MFS100 RD Service) captures the finger and passes the template to the page, which sends it to the PHP server. Standalone terminals and Android devices call the built-in REST API with their own device API key. A: Yes — free to download and use in your college project or portfolio. Q: Does it work with a real fingerprint scanner? A: Yes. USB scanners like the Mantra MFS100 work through their local RD service on the kiosk PC, and standalone terminals use the REST API. Without a scanner, test everything with the demo simulator. Q: Can it identify an employee from a fingerprint among many (1:N matching)? A: The built-in matcher compares the template IDs that devices return. For true 1:N matching across a large workforce, plug in a vendor engine such as SecuGen, Mantra MIS or SourceAFIS — the code has one marked place for it. Q: How is late or half day decided? A: Check in after shift start plus grace minutes and you're marked late. If check-in to check-out is below the half-day threshold, the day becomes a half day. Both are set in Settings.
