The Mon Bridge and the nearby Mon Village (Wang Kha) are the cultural heart of Sangkhlaburi, a quiet border town in Kanchanaburi Province.
Mon Bridge (Saphan Mon / Uttamanusorn Bridge)
The Mon Bridge is the longest wooden bridge in Thailand and one of the longest in the world, stretching across the Songkalia River to connect the Thai town with the Mon community.
It was built in the 1980s under the guidance of the Mon monk Luang Pho Uttama, with the help of local villagers, symbolizing unity between cultures.
Today, it is a popular place to walk—especially at sunrise or sunset—offering beautiful views and a glimpse of daily life, including monks collecting alms in the early morning.
Mon Village (Wang Kha)
At the far end of the bridge lies the Mon Village, home to an ethnic Mon community with roots in Myanmar and a long history in Southeast Asia.
The village is known for its traditional wooden houses, local markets, handmade goods, and a slower, rural lifestyle where Mon language and customs are still preserved.
Visitors can experience authentic culture here—such as local food, clothing, and religious practices—making it a unique place to understand the blend of Thai and Mon traditions.
In short: the Mon Bridge is not just a scenic landmark, but a symbolic link—physically and culturally—between Sangkhlaburi and the Mon people who give the area its unique identity.
