In August 1966, the skeletons of the Wanli Emperor and two Ming empresses were dragged out of Dingling and burned. One of them was Lady Wang, a palace maid who bore the emperor's first son, Zhu Changluo (later the Taichang Emperor). She was made Empress Xiaojing only after her death. This documentary looks at what genetics, ancient DNA and forensic science have really revealed about China's emperors and the women buried beside them, and what was lost before science could reach them. Every claim is labelled as documented fact, scholarly inference or contested legend. References: Du et al.
