Get Understanding

GET UNDERSTANDING “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” — Proverbs 4:7 This song is about one of the most important truths in the Word of God: we must not only hear the Word—we must understand what we hear. Jesus taught that when someone hears the Word of the Kingdom and does not understand it, the wicked one comes and catches away what was sown in the heart. But the one who hears the Word and understands it bears fruit. Understanding matters because faith itself comes through hearing: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” — Romans 10:17 We can hear words. We can read Scripture. We can know verses. But God calls us to seek understanding—to know what His Word actually says and allow that Word to take root in our hearts. “Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.” — Luke 24:45 Get wisdom.
