✨ THE ORIGIN OF THE YADU DYNASTY | THE STORY BEFORE SRI KRISHNA’S BIRTH ✨ Long ago, the great Yadu Dynasty emerged from the ancient Lunar Dynasty, or Chandra Vamsha. In the Dvapara Yuga, this was the sacred lineage in which Lord Vishnu would eventually incarnate as Sri Krishna, to protect Dharma and restore righteousness. The story begins with Yadu, the eldest son of the famous king Yayati. When Yayati became old because of a curse, he asked his sons to exchange their youth for his old age. While the younger son accepted his father's old age and gave his youth to Yayati, Yadu refused. Because of this, Yadu did not become the principal heir of the Lunar Dynasty. Yet Yadu established a powerful and renowned lineage through his own strength and ability. His descendants came to be known as the Yadu or Yadava Dynasty. From this dynasty emerged several important branches, including the Vrishnis, Bhojas, Andhakas, and Kukuras. It was later in the Vrishni branch that the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna would appear. Among the important Yadava rulers was Ugrasena, the king of Mathura. His son Kamsa was a powerful warrior, but pride, cruelty, and the hunger for power gradually took over his heart. Kamsa overthrew his own father, imprisoned him, and seized the throne of Mathura. But Kamsa's reign was destined to end. In his previous birth, Kamsa was the powerful demon Kalanemi, an enemy of Lord Vishnu. After being slain by the Lord, his enmity continued into his next birth as Kamsa. The story then turns to Devaki, the daughter of Yadava king Devaka. Devaka was the brother of Ugrasena, making Devaki and Kamsa relatives. Devaki married the respected Yadava prince Vasudeva, the son of Shurasena. According to the story, Vasudeva and Devaki had previously been Kashyapa and Aditi. Through their penance, they had received the blessing that Lord Vishnu would appear as their son. During Devaki's wedding, Kamsa lovingly drove the newly married couple in their chariot. Suddenly, a divine voice from the sky declared: “Kamsa, the eighth son of Devaki will be the cause of your death.” Terrified, Kamsa tried to kill Devaki. But Vasudeva stopped him and promised to hand over every child born to Devaki. Kamsa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva in Mathura. One after another, the first six children of Devaki were born and brutally killed by Kamsa. These six children were known as the Shadgarbhas—Smar, Udgitha, Parishvanga, Patanga, Kshudrabhrit, and Ghrini. They were associated with the six inner enemies: lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride, and envy. Their previous births and curses formed a mysterious chain of destiny that ultimately brought them into Kamsa's hands. But the divine plan was already unfolding. Vasudeva's other wife was Rohini, whose son would be Balarama, the incarnation of Sri Shesha Ananta. During Devaki's seventh pregnancy, the divine embryo was transferred by the power of Yogamaya from Devaki's womb to Rohini's womb. Thus Balarama was born to Rohini. Then came the moment for which the entire world was waiting. In Devaki's eighth pregnancy, Lord Sri Mahavishnu Himself descended as Sri Krishna. Yogamaya prepared the divine stage for the appearance of the Supreme Lord, who would destroy adharma and restore Dharma. And so, inside the prison of Mathura, what was about to take place was not an ordinary birth.
