The September 2026 jobs report shows signs of a slowing labor market. U.S. employers added 29,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate changed little at 4.2%. For blue-collar employers, there were still areas of growth. Construction added 11,000 jobs, while manufacturing added 9,000. Manufacturing employment is now up 72,000 jobs from its recent low in December 2025.
