It is not quite Wilt Chamberlain against Bill Russell or Hakeem Olajuwon against Shaquille O'Neal. After all, Allen Iverson is just a 19-year-old Georgetown sophomore from Hampton, Va., and Stephon Marbury an 18-year-old Georgia Tech freshman from Coney Island. And they are not 7-foot giants who crash the backboards. Iverson stands 6 feet, Marbury 6-1. But they are two of the most exciting players in college basketball: quick, fleet point guards who can turn games around with magic ballhandling or highlight dunks. When the 11th annual Preseason National Invitation Tournament arrives at Madison Square Garden for tonight's semifinals, the 6 P.M. game will send Michigan, ranked 16th in the Associated Press poll, against No. 19 Arizona. At 8:30, Iverson and No. 5 Georgetown will play Marbury and No. 25 Georgia Tech. The winners will meet at 9:30 P.M. on Friday for the title. All three games will be televised by ESPN. Georgetown is a strong favorite over Georgia Tech because it has so much depth to feed its race-horse offense and full-court defense. And Iverson has more experience than Marbury, which is so important for players so young.
