Ten thousand dong. About forty cents. For a lot of people in Saigon, every one of those coins matters. 🇻🇳
Same city, same morning, two very different lives. I went to find out what five dollars a day really looks like in Ho Chi Minh City: the morning markets, the thousands of construction workers heading to work before sunrise, the street vendors at the gate, and the families buying dinner for less than a dollar a dish.
In this video:
• Roadside morning markets: fish, vegetables, flowers and fruit
• The construction workers' rush hour, and the economy at the gate
• What $5 actually buys: sugar apples, sugarcane juice, coffee and fresh fruit
• Can a family of four eat for $5 a day?
• Lottery sellers, repair shops and sidewalk cafes
• Narrow alleys and riverside homes
• A city changing fast, and who gets left behind
These people don't need your pity. They need customers. If you visit Saigon, buy the fruit, drink the sugarcane juice, and sit on the plastic stool. That's how you see the real city.
