I Heard Bigfoot Knocking in the Woods... I Knocked Back | Forest Ranger Tales Around A Campfire

I heard something knocking against the trees deep in the Washington wilderness. I thought it was another person, so I knocked back. That was my first mistake. Come have a seat friend, get cozy around the campfire and put on your best brave face. Tonight we have three forest rangers. Three disturbing encounters they’ll never forget. And three reasons you might think twice before wandering off the trail. Tonight on The Midnight Holler, Jonah Elias Crowe shares three original horror stories from the remote forests of America. From a terrifying Bigfoot encounter in Washington to a deadly discovery in Northern California and a mystery buried beneath two centuries of Appalachian snow. STORY 1: I KNOCKED BACK | Washington, 2018 Veteran Forest Service ranger Jack Wirsbinski is investigating reports of damaged trees in Gifford Pinchot National Forest when he hears something striking a tree deep in the woods. Thinking someone is messing with him, Jack picks up a branch and knocks back. Something answers. And when Jack finally sees what’s making the noise, he realizes he’s made a terrible mistake. STORY 2: THE MEN BELOW THE ROAD | California Ranger Donnie Haskins is investigating what appears to be illegal dumping in a remote section of Mendocino National Forest. But the trash leads him to something much bigger. When the men responsible discover he’s watching them, Donnie finds himself trapped miles from help, with armed strangers closing in. STORY 3: HE TOLD ME TO STAY | North Carolina, 2019 During a winter search for a missing hiker in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, ranger Larry Owens hears two men arguing in a secluded hollow. Then a gunshot rings out. When Larry investigates, he discovers something that shouldn’t be possible. The argument begins again. And again. Whatever happened in that hollow more than 200 years ago isn’t finished. ⸻ THE MIDNIGHT HOLLER — BROADCAST 026: THE RANGER FILES Three unsettling stories about the things that hide in America’s wilderness. Some are dangerous. Some are desperate. And some have been waiting a very long time to be found. Settle in, turn down the lights, and keep your ears open. Have you ever experienced something you couldn’t explain in the woods? Tell us about it in the comments. We’d love to hear your story.
