After months on the road, two trips back to Sydney, a broken sliding door, replacing my power station and constantly moving from one place to another, I was beginning to wonder whether I was ever going to find somewhere I could actually stop. One thing I've discovered out here is that being in the bush doesn't necessarily mean being alone. There are people everywhere. You can drive for hours, think you've finally found somewhere isolated, and then hear somebody cough in the distance. Eventually, I found somewhere I could actually be left alone. I called it Camp Nirvana. And that's really what Nirvana meant to me. Being left alone. No people. No noise. No questions. No feeling watched. No having to explain myself or what I was doing. I could stop travelling, set up camp and finally give myself enough time and space to see what happened. This episode is the beginning of eight days at Camp Nirvana. I set up camp, explore the place and start building the infrastructure I need to work. Over the coming episodes you'll see what happened once I stopped moving and started making: photography, self-portraits, still lifes, experiments, mistakes and whatever else emerged while I was there. I didn't know what Camp Nirvana was going to become when I arrived. I just knew I'd finally found somewhere I could be left alone. Come along and we'll find out.
