श्री राधा बल्लभ संप्रदाय के बृजभाषा साहित्य में श्री ध्रुवदास जी की बयालीस लीला का महान पूर्ण स्थान है। श्री सेवकजी एवं श्री ध्रुवदासजी राधावल्लभ सम्प्रदाय के आरम्भ के ऐसे दो रसिक महानुभाव हैं, जिन्होंने श्री हिताचार्य की रचनाओं के आधार पर इस सम्प्रदाय के सिद्धान्तों को सुस्पष्ट रूप-रेखा प्रदान की थी | सम्प्रदाय के प्रेम-सिद्धान्त और रस पद्धति के निर्माण में श्री ध्रुवदासजी का योगदान अत्यन्त महतवपूर्ण है। ध्रुवदासजी देवबंद, जिला सहारनपुर के रहने वाले थे | इनका जन्म वहाँ के एक ऐसे कायस्थ कुल में हुआ था, जो आरम्भ से ही श्री हिताचार्य के सम्पर्क में आ गया था और उनका कृपा भाजन बन गया था | इनका जन्म सं. १६२२ माना जाता है इनके पिता श्यामदास जी श्री हितप्रभु के शिष्य थे ओर ये स्वयं उनके तृतीय पुत्र श्री गोपीनाथ गोस्वामी के कृपापात्र थे | इसी से इनके चरित्रकार महात्मा भगवत मुदितजी ने इनको ‘परम्पराइ अनन्य उपासी’ लिखा है। ध्रुवदासजी से पूर्व एवं उनके समकालीन प्राय: सभी श्री राधा-कृष्णोपासक महानुभावों ने फुटकर पदों में लीला-गान किया था | ये पद अपने आप में पूर्ण होते हैं, किन्तु उनमें लीला के किसी एक अंग की ही पूर्णता होती है, अन्य अंगो की अभिव्यक्ति के लिए दुसरे पदों की रचना करनी होती है | ध्रुवदासजी ने नित्य-विहार-लीला को एक अखण्ड धारा बताया है। Shri Dhruvdas ji's forty-two Leelas have a great place in Brijbhasha literature of Shri Radha Ballabh sect. Shri Sevakji and Shri Dhruvdasji are two great personalities of the beginning of the Radhavallabh sect, who gave a clear outline to the principles of this sect on the basis of the works of Shri Hitacharya. The contribution of Shri Dhruvdasji is very important in the formation of the sect's theory of love and Rasa system. Dhruvdasji was a resident of Deoband, District Saharanpur. He was born there in a Kayastha family and had come in contact with Shri Hitacharya from the very beginning and received his blessings. He wrote this bhajans. It is believed that his father Shyamdas ji was a disciple of Shri Hitprabhu and he himself was blessed by his third son Shri Gopinath Goswami. He is 'parampara ananya upasi'. Prior to Dhruvdasji and his contemporaries, almost all Shri Radha-Krishnopasak great personalities had performed leela-gaan in minor posts.
