Using the weather maps from before D-Day, our meteorologist Charlie Powell creates a modern version of the forecast that allowed the Normandy Landings to be a success. Group Captain James Stagg was in charge of observing the weather ahead of D-Day. He is portrayed by Andrew Scott in his new film 'Pressure'. At the time, observations were collected from air reconnaissance, ship and land observations (all manually recorded and analysed), and from German sites, once the Enigma code had been broken. Charts were then hand-drawn every few hours to monitor the progression of weather systems. 00:01 - Explaining the history behind the D-Day weather maps 02:36 - Charlie tries to recreate the D-Day forecast • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram:   / itvnews   Follow ITV News on Facebook:   / itvnews   Follow ITV News on X:   / itvnews
