Should Christians Vote? What to Look For in a Candidate

Should Christians vote at all? Bernard Bourque says yes, then opens Deuteronomy 17 to show what God told Israel to look for in a leader and turns it into a checklist you can carry to the polls. Along the way: Jeremiah 29:7, Romans 13, King Edward VI and the fourth sword, and the two points on the list he calls deal breakers. In his own words: "I can't tell you how to vote, but the Bible and God tells you these are the stipulations and the qualifications you're gonna look for." The seven marks come from Deuteronomy 17:14 to 20. "The heart of the king is in the hand of the LORD" is Proverbs 21:1. "God removes kings and establishes them" is Daniel 2:21. "Crave pure spiritual milk" is 1 Peter 2:2. "Knit together in my mother's womb" is Psalm 139:13. The line about evil flourishing when good men do nothing is usually credited to Edmund Burke, though it does not appear in his writings in that form.
