Everyone knows the story of two sisters from Compton who changed tennis forever. But Venus and Serena were never just two sisters. They were the youngest of five girls raised under one roof, and behind every trophy they lifted, there were three older sisters the cameras almost never showed. Their mother, Oracene Price, had three daughters from her first marriage: Yetunde, Isha, and Lyndrea. Then came Venus and Serena. Five girls, one small house, and one enormous dream. The older sisters were there for the early mornings on public courts, the homeschooling, and the long drives. Yetunde, the eldest, worked as a nurse for around nine years before becoming a personal assistant to Venus and Serena. In 2003, she was killed by gang gunfire in Compton, leaving behind three children. In 2016, Venus and Serena opened the Yetunde Price Resource Center in their hometown, a place built to help people affected by violence find support. Isha became a lawyer and served as an executive producer on "King Richard" alongside Venus and Serena, helping make sure the film told the story the way the family lived it. Lyndrea has stayed close to the family while keeping her own life almost entirely out of the spotlight. We also look at the honest picture of a large blended family, where not every relationship looks the same. The usual version of this story is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Venus and Serena may own the trophies, but the full story of their success belongs to all five sisters. If your family has ever turned a painful loss into something that helps other people, share it in the comments. Stories like that deserve to be heard.
