Swapping a 1-wire alternator into your first-gen Dodge Cummins? Here’s how I ditched the crusty old voltage regulator and upgraded to a PA Performance 1-wire alt on my 1989 Dodge D250 with the legendary 12-valve Cummins. This upgrade works for Dodge trucks from 1989–2002 and completely eliminates the factory external voltage regulator and associated spaghetti of wiring and failure points. I used the 136-amp PA Performance alternator, which comes with a lifetime warranty—though the 200-amp version is also available (with a 1-year warranty). 👉 In this video, I’ll walk you through: The wiring changes (simple, but not idiot-proof) Bracket fitment for the 1-wire alternator How I routed the charge wire Tips for troubleshooting voltage drop and battery issues If you're running a 12-valve Cummins and want to simplify your charging system, this mod is worth its weight in volts.
