BMW 325XI E46 Automatic Transmission Fluid Service DIY

Every project car has a story. In Chapter 3 Maintenance which is split into multiple sections, Were going to service every drivetrain fluid that's on the E46 which BMW states Lifetime fluid. After correcting the issues on vehicle, Mushu Drives the E46 long distance for a steady 2 weeks while monitoring the automatic transmission shifting behavior. Verifying that the Aged Automatic Transmission was responding and operating at normal conditions during Mushu's first weeks of ownership, we then proceeded to do the fluid change and filter service on the GM Automatic Transmission. Since BMW discontinued the Transmission Fluid that go's for the E46, We used Castrol Transmax Dex/Merc Fluid as its replacement as (Dextron 4 requirements). After the 1st service, we continued to monitor the transmission shifting behavior for 2 more weeks to determine if to perform a 2nd fluid exchange. Since no issues present itself with trans, we perform the 2nd ATF service because torque converter holds 4 quarts of fluid that can not be drained unless transmission is removed. The transmission is now filled with 90% of fresh ATF fluid. Also since ALL DRIVETRAIN FLUIDS were serviced, it Restored Powertrain Efficiency to 100%, increased Life, and MPG to spec as rated from BMW. As of today, the automatic transmission on the e46 still responds the same as the day we serviced it in 2017, Silky smooth shifts.
