First Astro Boy Appearance! Shōnen 4/1952 - Manga Readthrough | GAIJINGUY

Hey, GAIJINGUYGERS! Thanks for watching GJG! I hope you enjoy the vids as much as I enjoy making them. In this vid: Shōnen was a monthly kids magazine that was mostly stories and articles with a few comics thrown in, but became the home for one of the most recognizable anime and manga characters ever created, Tetsuwan Atomu (Mighty Atom, Astro Boy) by TEZUKA Osamu who I lovingly call The Tez and who was only 23 (!!) when this ish was published. I also flip through a few earlier ishes of Shōnen for some context and show the direction that the mag was taking (ie. adding more and more comics). If you like retro/vintage manga and want to see them in their original context, this video is for you. I also talk about the flexibility of the Japanese language and I introduce our new kitty mascot Luna Lee.
