[Advanced Chinese] Hot debate on China's internet: Should English Be A Core Subject In School?

English has been a core subject in China for many years. Fluency in English is a highly sought-after skill set in China, especially after China opened up to the world in early 80s. After joining WTO in 2001, China's international trade with many countries exploded. As of today (in 2026), China is the largest trading partner for 151 countries worldwide. It seems crazy to me that in today's day and age, some people in China are advocating for lowering the weight of English education in school. When do kids start learning English in your country?
