Malta

Malta is a small island country located in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily and not far from the coasts of Italy and North Africa. The country consists of several islands, the largest of which are Malta, Gozo, and Comino. Capital: Valletta Population: about 520,000 Official languages: Maltese and English Currency: euro. Malta has a very long history. The islands were inhabited by:Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, and later the Knights Hospitaller (the Order of Malta). In the 16th century the knights built many forts and cities, including the capital Valletta. In later centuries Malta was under the rule of the United Kingdom.
